After another period of radio silence, I’m back with a new post! Life is busy and I often find it difficult these days to reflect on what I’ve been up to, let alone write on my blog. Just before Easter, we went camping at Lyme Regis, and I thought it would be fun to do a little post on that experience. It was our first camping trip of 2025!
Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is in Dorset in southern England and is on the Jurassic Coast. It is famous for being home to Mary Anning, the fossil hunter and a founder of paleontology. Historically, it was a popular seaside resort town for bathing therapy, and today it is buzzing with a healthy tourism industry that attracts people keen on outdoorsy hobbies like hiking and camping.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather; it was warm on the Friday to the point that people were swimming in the sea in their clothes and underpants! The campsite we stayed at was Hook Farm. It was a very different sort of campsite than where we’ve stayed before, as we have previously opted for a more off-grid vibe. This site had caravans and also a full toilet block. I must admit it was nice to be able to have a hot shower with excellent water pressure and to use a flushing toilet!

The site was about a 10 minute drive from Lyme Regis seafront, though when we were there, the main road was shut due to construction so it did take us a bit longer using country lanes. The campground was dog friendly and they had a field where Wilbur could run off lead. The one downside to our site was that it was on a slope and I kept rolling off my sleeping pad! The landscape around Lyme Regis is quite hilly so this is understandable, but I do feel that the site could benefit from some more level tent pitches. For this reason, I don’t know if I would necessarily recommend it for tent camping.
Seaside Adventures
The first afternoon, we set up the tent and then drove to Lyme Regis. There, we wandered along the beachfront and got ice cream. After the sun set it was chilly (Spring after all!), and we found it a bit uncomfortable sleeping. However, I did enjoy listening to a pair of owls hooting at each other while I was lying awake shivering!
Saturday we went back to Lyme Regis and walked along Monmouth beach fossil hunting. I even found a couple of fossils! Lunch was sausage and chips on the seafront, and then we walked along to look at Mary Anning’s statue before having more ice cream! Thankfully, the weather gods were smiling on us as it only started to rain as we were packing up.

Lyme Regis is a fantastic place to visit and I would definitely go back. One of my main highlights was driving past Stonehenge on the way down and back. I just love how the build a highway beside a giant ancient monument, such a juxtaposition of old and new that makes me love England.

That’s all from me now, see you soon!
