Summer Favourites – 2018

This summer has been incredibly hot and uncomfortable (for those of us who perfer cold weather). The July heat wave was relentless and we could definitely be in for more warm weather yet. Thus, you’ll notice that my summer favourites for this year focus on keeping cool. 🙂

  • Dresses — I’ve got three dresses that I’ve been wearing religiously. One is a blue floral midi dress that I’ve featured in my Spring Outfits (very inexpensive on Amazon and also available on Ebay). I recently picked up a lightweight midi dress in ink colour with a palm print (perfect for the heat wave!). The last dress I got on sale at Anthropologie in San Francisco in, I believe, 2009. They make beautiful dresses and this one is of amazing, lasting quality.DSCN3200
  • “Chub rub” shorts — A must to prevent chaffing when wearing dresses. I have knee length leggings with lace trim, a grey pair, and a black pair – all from Amazon.
  • I ♥ Revolution Fixing Spray in Vanilla & Coconut —This stuff smells amazing! It’s refreshing to mist first thing in the morning and sets my makeup (available from Superdrug)
  • Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Purifying Enzyme Mask — I normally find clay masks too drying and they break me out but this one is nice! It’s free from parabens, phthalates, and dyes and has papaya extract (the fruit acid acts as a chemical peel). It was around £5 and I got mine at Superdrug.
  • Mint and Strawberry Lemonade— ever since we bought a mint plant for the kitchen, I’ve been loving diet lemonade (like Sprite, not the North American kind) with some shredded mint leaves and a pulverized strawberry. It’s so revitalising after a long, hot day!
  • Nipple Covers — LOL I can’t believe I’m writing this, but if you like to go braless in summer with a strapless dress, or if you get a bit too much nipple when you wear a white shirt, these little ladies are fantastic. They’re made of silicone and have a sticky backing, and can be used over and over again (get on Amazon).
  • College Gardens — We have a beautiful silver lime tree that smelled amazing in early July. The wisteria is also blooming again and it’s generally such a lovely place to work. Unfortunately, massive building works started and now the gardens are a construction zone, so I appreciated them while I could. 🙁DSCN3202
  • Nivea In Shower Lotion with cocoa butter — I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but was a bit apprehensive because of my sensitive skin. It smells amazing and it’s such a novelty to get out of the shower already moisturised! I have no problem using it on my lower legs after shaving but all over I get a bit itchy. I’m sure you’ll be fine if you have normal skin!

  • Max Factor Lip Balm —Featured in my Pink Makeup post, I like this balm for really hot days because it doesn’t dry my lips out. I drink constantly so there isn’t much point in wearing a heavy lipstick that will rub off.

  • Sandals from Next—I have a hard time buying footwear because my feet are very narrow and I have long “monkey” toes. I also have a low arch so Birkenstocks hurt my feet after prolonged wear. I had a pair of Clarks sandals last year that I had to donate because they totally messed up my left foot. I got this bruised internal bone pain at the base of my big toe (not good). These Next Sandals (featured in the photos above) are made from leather and they have a supportive ankle strap. I can walk all day in them with no blisters and no foot pain. They also don’t slide around on my feet. I liked them so much I bought a second pair in white!
  • H&M Cream Eye Shadow Sticks – These are great for when you’re in a hurry applying makeup before work. I already have Frou Fou (which you can read about in my H&M beauty review), and Lucy kindly bought me Haypenny, a bronze shade.

  • Jane the Virgin – I watched this a few years ago while I was finishing my thesis and then it got difficult to find the most recent episodes through streaming sites. Now that it’s on Netflix, I’m playing catch-up and laughing every second.
  • Bournemouth! ♥
