Autumn Favourites – 2018

It’s that time of year again: crunchy leaves, cosy sweaters, hearty meals, boots, and everything cinnamon! Plus, Halloween, even though we don’t get trick-or-treaters! I’m writing this a few weeks in advance because autumn also means the start of term at Oxford and that = chaos at work. To save my sanity, I’ve done a bit of pre-writing so I do apologise that I can’t update you on what future me is doing when this goes up (hopefully not dying of freshers’ flu round 2!). I hope you enjoy my autumn favourites – 2018!

In no particular order, here are things I’m loving this fall:

Homemade Soup

I’ve been making a lot of vegetable and lentil soups with whatever bits are leftover in the fridge. I’ve also been loving adding ginger in hopes it will ward off plague! The photo below is a similar soup I made last year (see Winter Soups).Homemade Soup

Denim Jacket

I spoke about my jacket in Spring Work Outfits – 2018 and Styling a Denim Jacket in Summer. I wore it throughout September into early October. I’ve paired it with my new olive trousers and various scarves. Definitely a staple in my wardrobe!Denim Jacket Outfit

TV Shows

I’ve been loving the second season of Ozark. Other favourites are: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Travel Man (Richard is my spirit animal), and of course, The Great British Bakeoff!

Beeswax Wraps

These handy wraps were one of the first things I purchased when we started reducing our waste (see Zero Waste and Plastic Free Living- Part 1). I use them for covering cut fruit and veg, and I also wrap my energy balls in them (see below). I just rinse with cold water and use again! You can buy these on Etsy, online zero waste shops, and Amazon (affiliate link).

Pumpkin Spice Energy Balls

I decided that I was being wasteful buying a box of granola bars every week so now I make my own energy balls and bring them with me for a bus snack on the way home. I make different varieties with seeds, nuts, and chocolate chips, but this flavour is very tasty!Pumpkin Spice Energy Balls

I mix together: 1 cup porridge oats, 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup ground flaxseed, 1/3 cup honey, small handful of raisins. For this variety, I added: 1 tbsp. maca powder (gives it a nutty flavour), 1 tsp. cinnamon, pinch of nutmeg, pinch of ground cloves. I roll them into small balls and freeze on a cookie sheet for 1 hr. I then store them in a container in the freezer and pull out 2 each evening when I’m prepping my lunch. They are wrapped up, and good to go!

Donkey Milk Soap

So, I bought this soap as part of a joint post I’m doing soon with The Recipes Project (historical blog I contribute to) and I really like it! I’m allergic to goat’s milk soap, so I assumed this would make me itchy, but it doesn’t. It’s creamy and moisturising and I can see why donkey milk is a favourite in the Korean beauty community.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Perfume

I’ve switched over to my autumn/winter fragrances and these perfumes are gorgeous. I particularly like the Bourbon one as it’s sweet, warm, sophisticated, and comforting on a cold day (see my review here).

Thought Clothing

I haven’t bought any clothing this autumn because I have everything I need! The last purchase I made was in August from Thought Clothing, which is an ethical brand that specialises in natural fabrics. They also send all their items in paper packaging (no plastic at all) and encourage you to repurpose the bag. I got Lucy and myself each a pair of bamboo socks, and I bought a tencel and cotton skirt (with an elasticized waist and pockets, heck ya!), and a 3/4 length jumper made with cotton and wool. I wore the skirt with sandals in summer, and now I’m wearing it with tights and boots.
