My heart is heavy with the death of Anthony Bourdain. I admired his adventurous spirit, openness to new cultures and their cuisines, and his tremendous work ethic. His shows got me through some really tough times and it saddens me that during his creation of enlightening entertainment, he was suffering. He will be missed.

This isn’t really the sort of blog that addresses mental health, but it affects a lot of us, including me. If you are feeling down, please reach out. Talk to family, a friend, a health professional, or a charitable help line — reach out to me if you want. There is always someone willing to listen.

Now, moving on to something that makes me happy — makeup. I know that makeup is frivolous and materialistic, but if buying, experimenting with, and wearing makeup makes me feel good in myself, then it’s my therapy and should be embraced.

This week I’m writing about everything PINK!

The right shade of pink can be flattering on any skin tone, and there are lots of fun shades to give your face that pop of colour perfect for this flourishing and rejuvenating season. I’m going to focus on those “easy to wear” pinks; the soft pinks, peachy pinks, and nude pinks.

First up is my new lip gloss from Max Factor. It’s called Starlight Coral and it’s a colour elixir cushion… whatever that means. It’s moisturising, not sticky, has a nice vanilla scent, and supposedly it contains antioxidants. I’m not sure about that claim, but it’s very pretty and comfortable to wear. I got mine at Boots for £8.99 (I also had 20% off).

For cheeks, I alternate between blushes daily, but I really like cream blush in spring because it wears easily and gives you a dewy glow. I’ve had this cream blush from Revlon called Charmed Enchantment 150 for at least a couple of years and it’s still going strong.

It hasn’t gone off and I’ve barely made a dent in it. I also use it on my lips sometimes. Sadly, this has been discontinued and I can’t find a similar product. Let me know if you have a go-to cream blush that doesn’t have glitter and doesn’t dry to powder!

I’ve featured these Max Factor lip balms before on my blog (Summer Beauty Buys). I’ve actually grown to love both shades! I wear Refined Rose as a daily lip tint; I’m halfway through my second bullet. The Volumptuous Pink is pretty if I want a bolder pop of colour. They are on offer on Amazon for £4.58 if you’re interested!

I tend to wear eyeshadow most days, though recently I’ve had to go lighter because of bad allergies. Santa gave me this quad of pinky nudes from L’Oreal last Christmas. It’s called “Colour Riche Eye Pocket Palette in Avenue Des Roses”. I tend to wear the second shade (a nudey taupe) the most, but the lilac pink is very pretty for a spring look.

North America and the UK have different variations of these eyeshadow quads, but if you’re in Canada/US and want to pick this up it, I found it on Amazon.com.

Last but not least, I’ve got a new lipstick from Revlon in the super lustrous range called Pink in the Afternoon and it is perfect! I spotted this lip colour ages ago and made a note in my phone to pick it up. Last month on Pinterest I spotted it again and decided it was fate and I had to get it. It’s the perfect pink for spring, and it has a creamy, comfortable formula.
